We are continuing to appeal for information following a confirmed firearms discharge in Waterloo last night (Tuesday, 7 May).
Officers were called to South Road at the junction with Mount Pleasant at around 9.40pm, when police received reports that loud bangs were heard in the area.
Patrols attended and spoke to witnesses who report shots had been fired in the direction of a black BMW car.
Officers spoke to the occupants of the vehicle, and there are no reports of any injuries or damage caused by the discharge.
Officers cordoned off the scene and during a search of the area, located bullet casings which have been taken away for forensic examination.
Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien said: “This incident has happened in a busy area and it is only sheer good fortune that nobody appears to have been injured.
“We are committed to tackling gun crime and bringing to justice those people who are so reckless with firearms that they would use them to fire at a car on a busy road.
“We have launched a full investigation to trace those responsible and are working to trace two males, thought to have been on a motorbike in the area at the time.
“We would urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area, has dash-cam footage or any information, to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting 19100228230."
