What is ‘Give a Day to Policing’?

The ‘Give a Day to Policing’ scheme was agreed by Chief Constables’ Council in January 2018 and invites local Members of Parliament (MPs) to join officers for a shift during the parliamentary summer recess to see the work and challenges officers are currently facing.

When?

We will be hosting a number of MPs across various dates between July and September. Here they will get the chance to work with officers from a variety of teams, learning what it is really like on the front line.

What does the Chief think?

Chief Constable Andy Cooke said: “It goes without saying that officers and police staff across the country do a really important job in protecting our communities, enforcing the law, supporting victims of crime and bringing offenders to justice.

“I am an advocate for this scheme and think it gives MPs a rare opportunity to better understand the challenges we face on a daily basis, as well as getting an insight into policing as a whole.

“I welcome any MP who wants to experience the various roles the police force has to offer and hope they gain valuable knowledge and skills which they can take back to Parliament.”
