News   •   Sep 02, 2019 14:45 BST

Detectives in Gateacre are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a store this morning, Monday, 2 September.

Officers were called to Subway, on Gateacre Park Drive, just before 9am to reports a male had entered the premises and threatened a member of staff.

The offender took a quantity of cash, he then left the scene on foot at the rear of the store in the direction of Thurne Way

The man, thought to be in his 30’s, is described as 5ft 6 in tall, of medium build, with grey short hair, wearing a high vis jacket, blue/grey tracksuit bottoms and black trainers, and carrying a yellow bag.

Detective Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “Luckily, no-one was injured during the incident, however the victim was left shaken and distressed. I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw anyone acting suspiciously, perhaps someone loitering outside the store before the robbery, to get in touch.

I would ask anyone driving past Subway at around 9am to look at their dascham footage as they might have something that could help us with our investigation.”

The store has been forensically examined and officers have spoken with staff members and witnesses.

CCTV from the area is being examined and enquiries are on-going.

Detectives would urge anyone who witnessed this incident, or saw anything suspicious in the area before or after the incident, contact @MerPolCC or 101 quoting incident reference 0228 of 2/9/19 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
